TekRex Case Study: Forklift Jig

When a client in the heavy machinery industry was needing to make custom modifications to their machinery to support AI functionality, TekRex designed a tool that optimized the assembly process.

Welcome to another installment in TekRex’s case studies video series. Here at TekRex, our focus on our clients’ success has led to some remarkable solutions, some of which we’ll dive into here.

A client in the heavy machinery industry is retrofitting existing equipment to be able to support artificial intelligence (AI) controlled functions.

The client needed a quick and accurate way to apply drill holes into their heavy machinery to make the required adaptations, but the parts needing customization were large and had a complex curvature.

Watch the video below to see our Design Engineering services in action.

TekRex used the dimensions of the machines needing to be customized to design a fixture that fit the machine’s unique curvature. Due to the size of the equipment, TekRex utilized a large format 3D filament printer to complete the job. Using integrated drill bushings, magnets, and keyed-off unique reference features the fixture could be easily attached to help guide the drilling in a precise and consistent manner.

The unique fixture improved the precision and speed in which the machines could be modified, leading to decreased production lead time and overall savings.
